8 Years in the making...

It's seems like only yesterday when my elderly uncle was visiting from Florida and filling our heads with nonsense. Like the fact that it was bad luck to take pictures of cats. At the time, we were gullible enough to believe every word he would say. Ok, now it's time for a little story telling...

About 8 years ago in late summer of 2003, LaVaughn and myself were staying in a hotel with some friends and family. Then we get a call from our house (also our grandma's house, we were taking care of her) saying that one of our cats at the time, Princess, had got out. And since no one could find her, we had to pack up and go home. When we got home, it was around 9 at night, but that didn't stop us from looking. And after about an hour or so, we found her. She seemed fine and acted like her normal self. Then we realised that we had some film left in one of our disposable cameras, so we decided to take some pictures of her. We had ruled out the idea of taking pictures being bad luck (we had taken pictures of our cats in the past and nothing happened). Anyway, we took some pictures, fed the cats and then went to bed. Around 9 or so the next morning, I awoke to the shrieking sound of LaVaughn calling my name. As I sat up, I looked at the foot of LaVaughn's bed, only to find Princess have some type of seizure. We immediately grabbed her and ran to the living room with her. All the while I'm on the phone trying to get help for her. Long story short, she didn't make it and had to be put down.

Now lets fast forward a couple months...

About a month after Princess died, we ended up moving. Than around a month after that, we acquired 2 more cats, bringing our total to 3. The two cats we had adopted were Lizzy and Chloe, along with the cat we already had, Zoe. We lived in that house for around 7 months. We ended up moving back to our grandma's in February of 2004. Things went well for the next few months. Then in May (I think), we had another disposable camera just laying around. We talked about taking pictures of the cats for a couple days, but would back off. Then one day, we decided to do it. We got some unbelievably cute pictures of all 3 cats. Well, about two weeks later, I was sitting in the bedroom when I heard LaVaughn yell our for me with a shriek behind it. I immediately got up and ran into the kitchen. And what did I find? Our poor cat, Lizzy, curled up on the kitchen floor, having seizures just like Princess. And just like last time, there was nothing we could do for her and she had to be put down. Then around 2 weeks after that, the same thing happened to Chloe. We were completely freaked out by the thought of taking pictures of our cats and never dared to do so again.

Then around October of that same year, we ended up getting a kitten named, Felicia. She was completely fine for the whole year.. Then around September of 2005, a extremely sick cat found her way to us. She had a HUGE sack hanging off of her stomach, it looked kind of like a tumor. Long story short, we took her to the vet and emergency surgery saved her life. So that brought our total to 3 cats. Well, around February of 2006, Felicia ended up getting sick just like all the other cats. Unfortunately, nothing could be done. That's when we started wondering why that happened. We hadn't taken one picture of her and she still got sick and died the same way. Then in December of that same year, Sasha (the cat that had to have surgery) got sick and died the same way. Our minds were completely blown and we had NO idea what in the hell was happening to them.

We stayed far, far away from any other cats after that. We thought we would just stick with the one we had, Zoe, and be done with it.

Ok, lets fast forward almost 2 years...

Now it's late summer of 2008. We get a call from our aunt one day saying that she found a cat and a kitten down the road and needed help catching them. Of course, we did. They lived at her house for about a month, then the older cat got pregnant. She ended up having 5 beautiful little kittens. And only one of those kittens were practically all white (with grey ears, feet and tail) with crystal blue eyes. It was inevitable, we were keeping her. Then a couple months after that (in October I think) we were visiting one of our grandparents old houses in Fredericktown. We had walked all around it and was getting ready to leave. Then out of nowhere, a kitten comes running up to us. Naturally, we took her home. Oh wait, since all of this has taken place in mid 2008, you know exactly what I'm talking about cause I started blogging in May of 08. Mischa is the little white cat and Una in the little yellow one we found in Fredericktown. Well then, I'm sure you all know that Mischa got sick and died the same way all the others did. And no pictures were taken of her at all.

Well, a couple weeks ago we were talking about all of that and trying to figure out why all of the cats died the way they did. At the time we had all of these cats, our grandma had LOADS of plants sitting around. And naturally, all of the cats climbed on the counters and more than likely ate the plants. Wait, let me rephrase, all of the cats except Zoe climbed on the counter. After Mischa died, we ended up throwing all of the plant away. And now, we have Zoe, Una and the new kitten, Sophie. Una is a big climber, just like all the other cats, except there are no plants for her to eat.

Basically what I'm trying to say is that we think the plats are what poisoned the cats and killed them. Considering we have taken pictures of Zoe in the past with (luckily) no fatalities. So last night, I swallowed my pride and started snapping pictures. All of which I want to share with you today. So, If something happenes a week from now or 2 months from now, you will all be witness to the fact that it's either bad luck to photograph cats, we're cursed or we've just had WAY too many plant hungry cats.

Well, I suppose that's all for now. I hope you're prepared to see what Zoe and Una look like. Until next time, you know where to find me...

Love & Peace
