I just wanted to talk about how well the baby chicks are doing! I didn't talk much about the environment that they came from -- I was just too exhausted at the time -- so I wanted to talk about that today.
Like I said the other day, we got them from the same guy we got our duck, Harley, from. He has a HUGE pin/fence for his ducks, guineas and geese -- all of which live together -- which is really nice, but I have no idea how his chickens live.
My aunt was with us, so she went to the door and knocked. It took about 5 minutes before she came back and told us we could come in. We both very nervously walked towards the door -- not really sure what we would stumble upon -- and as soon as we stepped in, we were hit by this horrible odor! I still can't pinpoint what or where the smell was coming from, but it was horrible!
The baby chicks were right as you walked in. I'm guessing it's kind of like an indoor back porch -- we didn't come in through the front door -- because that's where they had the incubator, baby chicks and boots and things. They also had food sitting out there, which really didn't seem healthy.
The baby chicks were all in a 10 gallon aquarium. And by all I mean 40+ baby chicks! There was absolutely no room for them to sleep and no room for them or eat or drink. Oh, well that was probably because there was no food or water in with them! Then the lady tried to lecture US about chick care!
It was very taxing being there, but at least we were able to rescue 7 baby chicks. The poor little things have no clue what to do with all the space! I can't even count the times that I've caught them stretching their legs.
After I realized they weren't have seizures, it was actually really cute! They'll lay on their sides and stretch one leg out really far, then flip to the other side and do the same. They're so entertaining. :)

I'm ready for my close-up...
I didn't have time to take individual pictures of the chicks last night, so as soon as I got home from town, I did. They're only 2 days old today -- they were born Sunday night -- so I want to preserve as many young photos as I can. I'm a sucker for any kind of baby thing and believe that my head will explode if I don't capture their youth.
Out mealies also came today. We ordered them last week and should have got them Monday, but didn't. I checked the tracking and they were just sitting in STL, so close... I hate waiting on mail, always have. I'm unbelievably stoked to have them, though. It seems like forever and a Day since the gliders have had mealies! We get them yoggies all the time, but not them.
LaVaughn and I are also on our last FOUR episodes of Supernatural season 5. I'm dying, I'm dying, I'm DYING!! I can't wait to see what's going to happen. The Four Horseman have been introduced and I'm drooling to see just how awesome Death is going to be. I'm know he'll be stunning, I just know it. I seriously live, eat and breath Supernatural at the moment. I'm mildly obsessed!
Okay, I need to go -- time to feed the gliders some mealies!

Pretty awesome shot of a train. Very apocalypto! Nice catch, LaVaughn.
Another awesome one that LaVaughn gets credit for.
This would be my child. Isn't it lovely? lol
It's so sad that I nearly squealed when I saw the Live Worms sticker on the box. And not from disgust, from excitement. There's something off about that, isn't there?
They're snuggled up nice and tight in their box. Definitely a good worm shipper.
With a cluck, cluck here and a cluck, cluck there...
We just got back from our very long drive to Perryville and back. In the end, we ended up making an entire circle. The day wasn't all bad, though. After the dentist, we stopped and picked up a few things. You'll have to keep reading if you want to know exactly what we picked up. :)
The drive there was fine.. actually it was unnaturally quiet, which I hate. By the time we got to Fredercktown, my aunt was unbelievably car sick and needed to stop at the gas station to walk around and get some gum, all the while LaVaughn and I are in the car jamming out to Clapton. Our aunt isn't hot on classic rock, so we turned it off as soon as she got back in the car. After she recovered, we continued on.
We made it to Perryville in no time. Despite how winding J HWY is, I still made good time. Since it was only 2 and the appointment was for 3, we had some time to blow. From the beginning, I told my aunt that leaving at 12:30 was going to put us at the dentist's door way too early, but she insisted anyway. LaVaughn and I wanted to hit up the pet store while we were there, so we decided to check that off our list first. We we pulled up, I knew something was off. There were no cars, no lights, no nothing! I scanned around the building until I found their business hours. And naturally, they're closed on Mondays. Go figure! My restless aunt wanted to head on to the dentist anyway.
I dropped them off at the dentists and sat with them for a while. Since I wasn't having anything done, I decided to go to the grocery store and pick up a few things while they were being drilled on.
By the time I made it to the store, I was already regretting my actions. I haven't been to Perryville Walmart in I don't know how long and forgot how run down the place was! I mean, it's not like infested with bugs or anything, but it's old and stale smelling. I just wanted to get my shopping done as quickly as possible! Which I did.
When I got back, neither of the two were setting in the waiting room - which was good, because I blew just enough time.. or so I thought. I sat for probably 30 minutes, watching the same stupid world news channel that they always leave it on! It gave me a massive headache. My aunt finally made her way out, lips drawn up and everything. I'm so not poking fun, but she intentionally made her mouth droop more. She's a dick! It was probably 20 more minutes before LaVaughn made it out with that same numbing look on her face -- you can imagine the drive home!
Now that I got all the boring stuff out of the way, it's time to talk chickens! Actually, it's time to talk baby chicks! You remember the nutty guy that we got Harley (our duck) from? Well he has baby chicks for sale and we decided to stop and pick some up. Luckily, the guy wasn't there and we just had to deal with his wife and little girl. We ended up with 7 new baby chicks. We got 4 Plymouth Rock/Barred Rock and 3 Araucana's. They are to die for!!
Here, check them out for yourself:
The pictures aren't the best, but I didn't want to harass them too much on their first day home. Unless we can distinguish markings, I believe they will remain unnamed at the moment. Hopefully they will each have their own unique markings when they get older.
And on that note, I'm out!

Blue moon...
I got some pretty decent shots of the moon around 2 this morning. Some days I can nab pretty good pictures, and then some days not so much. A lot depends on how clear the moon is, how bright it is and how close it appears. There aren't too bad, but I've done better...
Tomorrow should make for an interesting day - I get do drive not only my sister to the dentist, buy my aunt as well! Instead of going to someone local, they both go to Dr. Hutchison in Perryville. It's not a bad drive, only about 1 1/2 hours or so. I'm not sure what my aunt is having done, but my sister is getting her cavity filled.
I'm terrified of the dentist and haven't been since forever! It's not the actual dentistry that I'm scared of - I'm not even what you would call "scared" - I just don't like the idea of a shot it my gums! That's what gets me too, I'm not even scared of needles!! I love giving blood, but there's just something about having a sharp, pointy object thrust inside of your tender mouth. I think it's safe to say I'll be glad when tomorrow's over!

Let the good times roll...
LaVaughn and I have been watching Supernatural religiously lately (we're on the 5th season!). We usually squeeze in at least 2 episodes every evening, if not more. And considering we're nearly comatose the entire time, we thought, "Why not be comatose in the tent with the gliders!" so that's what we did.
Since Sadie and Pip are separated at the moment, we thought it would be nice to let them interact with each other while we monitored them. They were beyond excited to see each other. They scented and marked and scented and marked, pretty much the entire time. And I'm not talking the tent, they scented and marked each other! Sadie was apparently feeling pretty frisky and decided to ride Pip down a couple times - it was funny. After the excitement of seeing each other wore off, they spent the remaining time in their pouches or the Sugar Comb (see photo below).
After them, we decided to get Kira, Logan and Lilah out. They were a blast! Well, Kira was. She ran around everywhere and scented everything! She scented the sheet, the toys, her daughter and us! Logan spent most of his time on the wall of the tent, like always. He did spend quite a bit of his time in the Sugar Comb with Lilah, which was adorable (see photos below). They definitely took advantage of their time in the tent. They had a blast!
After them, we decided to get the ratties out for a while. They didn't enjoy themselves too much, not like they normally do. I think it's because we brought their cage in the tent with them and sort of made it a crutch. Emilie didn't dare leave it! Since Em is so standoffish, we want her to feel safe in the tent and know that she has a place to go hide if she wants to. Sally had a blast and ran all over, but not for long. She, too, decided to spend the remaining time in her cage. Silly girls.
Now tonight, we'll do the remaining pairs. Chloe and Violet, Emma and Eliza. I hope they have as much fun as everyone else!
I'd also like to add that Lilah will be staying here for another week. Taylor was unbelievably cool about it and not even the slightest bit upset. She's still trying to find the right cage for her, so she actually needed the extra time.
Love & Peace
