- Weekly iPhone Roundup {2.18 - 2.24}

What an eventful week! So my aunt surprised us with 6 Easter Egger chicken over the weekend and they are the CUTEST! Then I made the mistake of calling Buchheit's Saturday and finding out that they had all kinds of baby chicks! I ended up getting 8 more chicks. I know, that's kind of a lot at once, but I couldn't help myself.

I ended up getting 2 Barred Rock, 2 Dominique, 2 Polish Crested and last, but definitely not least... 2 Silkies!! We have a white little roo, so I got a white Silkie and a buff colored Silkie. Little known fact about me, Silkies are my favorite chickens in the world, so it tickled me to death to find baby Silkies. I wanted to take them all, no joke.

Then out of nowhere Tuesday evening, our white Polish Crested got very lethargic. She was just standing off to herself, not eating or drinking, just sleeping. I got her out and held her and fed her some chick started mixed with water. I would scrape a small amount on her beak until she would finally eat it. Then we dripped some sugar water on her beak, which she ended up drinking. It took a few hours for her to come around, but thank God she did.

By the end of the night she was standing in the food and eating herself!

I guess that's all for now, here are the pics from the week (there's a lot):

McDonald's for the win Saturday night.

It was so dead in Perryville Sunday night, like more than usual.

Here are the beautiful little Easter Egger chicks!

I love them so much.

Here are the little chicks in their new home for the sex several weeks.

I unintentionally had 4 white cheddar items in my cart Monday. Definitely wasn't planned.

Canning jars galore at Buchheits!

Oh how I wanted every single one of these baby ducklings.

Here's the new additions.

I also grabbed a big pack of ammo from Walmart for our new .22 handguns that my mom and step dad got LaVaughn and myself for Christmas.

Here are all the little chicks together. It's hard to tell them apart in this pic.

The little black ones are the Barred Rock and Dominique. The grey and white is one of the Polish Crested, the other Polish and two Silkies are mixed in there somewhere.

Look how much my lemon sprouts are growing! I topped them off with more soil earlier this week, but I think they look amazin.

Here's our little white Polish Crested. She was so pitiful.

She also looks very hateful.

But she's a sweet little baby chick.

I went for a ride Wednesday to try and find a Bald Eagle that I saw on the drive home Monday. I didn't find it, unfortunately.

I drove down C highway, which is pictured here. There's always Bald Eagles in this location.

Fall Photos - 2022 {Happy Halloween!}

First I'd like to say, Happy Halloween! I thought I would jump on here real quick and share some fall pictures from my camera from earlier this month. It's not a lot, but it's from one of the last times I took my camera outside for random photos. I'm honestly surprised I don't have more to share than this, but maybe the few that I do have will give me incentive to go outside and take some more, lol.

We had a long drive home from work today from over the weekend, so there are no plans to do anything other than watch our usual Halloween lineup. Watching Trick 'r Treat, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark and the original Halloween are an absolute must! That's basically all, how exhilarating, lol.

Well I guess I'll leave it at that. I hope everyone has an amazing Halloween!

Our rooster who was supposed to be a hen. I think I'm gonna name him Larry.

Our little silkie rooster, Ozzy, that we hoped was a girl.

Bugs on weeds.

This guy was a nice little model.

The creamy bokeh of the Nikon 105mm 2.8 lens really shines through here.

Baby bumblebees!

These guys were all over these weeds.

Look at those little bumblebee wings!

Also a worm on the weed.

Glistening bumblebee wings.

Spiderweb in the sunset.

It's amazing how intricate their webs are.

Gotta throw in a leaf picture.

And lastly, these tiny little bugs that are highlighted by the sun.

Weekly Update From Your Local Botanist

Calling myself a botanist is a longshot, but since I'm constantly stuck in the vortex of blog titles, I sometimes have to embellish my titles just a smidge. I mean, not having a botany degree aside, I do have a wide array knowledge pertaining to plants and gardening in general, so it's not too farfetched.

Well anyways, what a day yesterday was! I feel like I got hit by a bus, then had to walk home 15 miles in the rain. Gardening season is in full swing, so as soon as I got up yesterday it was time to start planting. We did a row of potatoes and a row of green beans. If you don't garden, then you don't know how difficult it is to constantly bend and squat and walk back and forth with water buckets, plus picking up and discarding any straw rocks that might be in the way.

I was outside close to two hours watering, digging and planting, then ventured down to the chicken coop to awkwardly stare at our new rooster for a few minutes - collecting eggs for the incubator was also on the menu. After that, I had to go water (and check on) all the sprouts. We have two UV lights set up, so the trays have to constantly be rotated, which I did. Then after feeding the gliders and other critters, it was time to cook dinner.

Not long after dinner, my sister and I decided to go over to the graveyard to walk. Mind you, this is the first time this year that we've gone, so saying I'm out of walking shape is a given. PA work is so much different than standing and walking around for 8 hours a day, so I'm really not used to being on my feet whole lot anymore, which is why I'm in so much pain today, lol.

I always brisk walk, so after a few minutes I'm really huffing and puffing. I looked down at my watch after about 15 minutes and my heart rate was 167! I was like omg, I don't think I've ever got my HR up that high before. By the 20 minute mark I slowed things down and quit just after 30 minutes. I racked up 18 minutes of cardio and burned 515 calories in just 30 minutes, so I definitely accomplished something there.

Walking, in combination with gardening, really hit me hard. Definitely a downside to not standing and walking all day at work, but it's just the beginning of spring, I'll get back into it eventually. Not today, of course. It's nasty out and supposed to storm here before too long, so I don't think walking is on the menu today.

Well here are the pics from the past few days. I tried to cut them down as much as possible, but there's still more than 20. Enjoy!

All. The. Seeds.

Onion bulbs.

Tomato plants.

More tomato and some pepper plants. There's watermelon hidden in there too.

Potatoes to plant.

It's hard to see because it's so washed out, but the two spaces to the left are the planted rows.

Our new Dark Brahma rooster!

He really is a pretty boy.

And apparently pretty young, I think the people said he wasn't even 6 months old yet, which is great.

He's a very radiant Dark Bramha.

Cucumber plants for days.

They're all doing very nicely, though.

My pepper sprouts that I'm OH so proud of!

I dried these seeds myself, which is why I'm so excited, lol.

I love their curly little leaves.

These are my Alyssums that I planted in the old Moscow Mule mugs.

They're coming along quite nicely.

A little sparse in places, but overall not bad.

I can't wait until they start to flower!

Very much a country kitchen window.

Nothing to be ashamed of, I love it.
