Funday Monday... not!

Today has kind of been a sucky day. It just started bad and semi stayed that way. I mean, it could have been worse, of course, but it's just been an annoying day all the way around.

We had to go to town today, which I was completely against, but it had to be done. I hate going to town when I'm in a bad mood, it just makes the whole trip horrid. I know I sound like a raving bitch, I apologize, but coming here and ranting seems to ease some of the stress and tension.

There were two free puppies in town today, one of which I thought LaVaughn was going to get, even though we both know we don't need a dog. I think the lady called them Yorkipoos? I'm not 100% sure about that. They were cute puppies, but I'm sure they would have been annoying little monsters when they got older.

Ugh, I'm SO not looking forward to work tomorrow, but at least I have 3 days off after. That's awesome. I really hope I can continue to get schedules like this, it's awesome just working weekends and Tuesdays.

It's so bad, but LaVaughn and I love watching Steve Wilkos in the evenings. I mean, it's like such a stupid and unrealistic show, but it's awesome to watch and make fun of. It's something we've done for as long as I can remember. We used to watch him at night, but they stopped putting him on at 1AM for some stupid reason. Now we watch him at 2PM and drink coffee, lol.

And of course, we held the gliders again today. Like I said, that's nothing new anymore. Miss Kira is doing SO much better! Her lip is practically healed already. We couldn't be happier about that!

Oh yeah, we decided to release Harley, our duck, back into the world today. He's been cooped up for far too long in that cage. He needs to get some exercise and catch some bugs! He's only been out for like 4 hours, but you can already tell he's having the time of his life.

Well, I suppose that's all for now. Sorry to be such a krone...

Love & Peace

Just look at Kira's lip. Isn't is so much better?

You can hardly tell anything was there.

She was actually watching a bug.

And now she's back at it.

Friday's happenings...

Oh how I hate my last day off. I'm always thinking, "Ugh, I have to go back to work tomorrow." It makes it even worse when I have to be there at 1! I hate coming in then, it's always so packed. Oh well, what can you do, right?

I don't think I mentioned this, but we ordered 8 new yards of fleece from Joann.com a while back. On second thought, I think I did write about this. Well anyways, we got it yesterday! It doesn't match up as well as I hoped it would - which is unusual, we're usually so go at that - but it matched up well enough. I can't wait to sew it next week!

Aside from the excitement of new fleece, we also held all our little beauties today. But that's nothing new, we hold them every day that I don't work. I love the bonding sessions we have with them. I don't think they mind either, they get their faces stuffed!

Speaking of gliders, Kira is already doing loads better today! Her lip looks SO much better, it's insane. I'm so, so happy that we found that awesome vet. It makes you rest easy knowing that there's a glider vet so close to you!

Again, while we're on the subject of gliders, I may as well go ahead and confess my love for Charli. And no, I'm not talking about white ass Charlie, I'm talking about Charli - formerly Nala. Yes, we've finally decided on a name for her! One that's much better than Nala! Simba's new mom has also decided on a name, she's naming him Avonaco! o.O I've been calling him Avon - pronounced like Avan. Anyways, like I was saying, I'm in love with Charli. She's my baby and I just love her face. I think about her all the time, lol. It's actually kind of pathetic. I'm just so happy we finally kept one of Kira and Logan's babies!

I know this is so random, but I brushed the shit out of Milla today. I'm sure all of you know by now that she's a German Shepherd and has like 12 layers of fur. That poor thing sheds ALL the time! We're taking her and our aunt's dog, Fletcher, to the groomer in a couple weeks and getting them shaved! Should be a blast!

And lastly, LaVaughn found a couple of cicada shells (I thin that's what they're call, maybe hulls?) and of course, I wanted to take a picture of them, which I did. They were awesome.

Well, I suppose that's all for now. Until next time...

Sugar glider vet trip...

Well, we had our first big glider scare Monday morning. Just before 5 AM, LaVaughn and I both heard scratching on the wall in the glider room. We both knew then that one of the gliders were out. Well, our conclusions were right, Sadie and Pip were both having a field day hopping from cage to cage.

It wasn't until after we caught them and put them back in their cage that I noticed that something wasn't right with Kira's face. All I could see was a reddish fleshy piece hanging from her face. At first glance, I thought it was her tongue!!

My heart sank.

I quickly grabbed her out of the cage and put her into a pouch. I was trying so hard to get some mealies out of our container, but my hands were literally shaking uncontrollably! After I gave her one and she settled down a bit, we were able to see that it wasn't her tongue! Then we saw that it was her bottom lip. The right side was completely split!

She shoveled in the mealies and acted like nothing was wrong, so we put her back in her cage to see how she's do. She automatically started running around and scenting the bars like nothing had happened to her. After that, we decided that it wasn't worth an emergency visit and decided to just call the vet that morning and make an appointment.

Unfortunately, the soonest they could get her in was 3:00 on Wednesday!

You can imagine how nerved up I was at work Tuesday. I was home all day Monday, so I was able to constantly check on her - mainly aggravate her - and make sure she was alright. LaVaughn was with her Tuesday, but I was only scheduled for 4 hours that day, so I didn't get a break or a chance to call. That's probably because I had to work 1 1/2 hours over. Fun!

Well, we made it to the vet today, xanex in hand. Not really of course, but man that was a long and unnerving drive! We were called back not 5 minutes after we got there. The vet was SO nice! Kira was the first glider she had in her office, but you would never know that. She handled her like a pro and was very gentile! The vet tech was amazed, she had never even heard of a sugar glider before. And come to find out, the vet tech lives not 5 miles away from us. Small world!

After she analyzed Kira's face, she gave us three options:

1) Put her on a anti-inflammatory and antibiotic and see if the swelling goes down enough to where she can sew it back on. She also thought that might give her enough time for her baby to come OOP, but that was going to be weeks still.

2) Try to put a local anesthetic in the spot and try to clip it off. But she was a little hesitant to do that, because she was afraid Kira wouldn't hold still long enough to get the bleeding stopped if it started.

3) Give her a little anesthesia and take care of it that way.

We both wanted number 3. It was too risky sending her home with that piece still there. She was already having a hard time eating, so we definitely didn't want to leave it. The only reason she didn't want to use gas on her was because she was going to have to put her whole body in the thing (whatever it was) and she was afraid she would knock her baby out too. That's when she decided to go get an attachment that she uses on rats. And luckily, it fit! It wasn't long after that, that she took her. :(

The next 10-15 minutes were not fun and did not go by fast.

She brought her out and told us that she was trying to go at her self and that we needed to keep her occupied. I starting freaking out and shaking, all the while trying to get a worm out of the container and feed it too her. Kira was SO out of it, she missed the worm and leached onto my finger with her hands. And she gripped tight! I just knew I was going to get bit, but I didn't. It only took a couple minutes and about 15 worms for her to wake up and act like herself again. But man was it scary!!

After that, the vet called one of the consult vets that we gave her and got her fixed up on a couple meds. She's on a anti-inflammatory and antibiotic. And can you guess what the cost of this was... only $63! I couldn't believe it! This vet it just beyond awesome! We definitely have a new glider vet to go to!

Okay, well I believe that's all for now. Time to go give Kira some more loves. Until next time...

Almost paradise...

I only have to work tomorrow then I get 3 glorious days off! I have today off as well, but it's not as special when you don't have two days off in a row, lol.

There's actually not much of anything going on today, it's actually quite sad. I don't even have any entertaining stories or pictures to share! I've really been slacking in the picture department lately. I guess because I work most of the week and then have other things to do on my days off. It sucks.

While I'm here, I'm going to give a little Harley update. The majority of his cuts, scrapes, and tooth bites seem to be healing pretty good. We've been keeping him covered in Vetericyn! I think one of the best things out of this whole ordeal - aside from the fact that he got out alive - is that he didn't loose his left eye! That's seriously a miracle.

He's also a very demanding little monster anymore. He has to have his bread smashed together in little pea sizes and then flattened out. He wont eat it ANY other way! And don't event think about giving him the crust. He wont eat one piece if it has crust on it.

In other news... we ordered some fleece from Joann a few days ago. We ordered 8 yards all together!! I honestly can't WAIT to get it! It's been too long since we've ordered fleece and made cage sets! It's going to be a blast.

Well, I suppose that's all for now. Until next time...

Here are some pictures of Harley from last night:

See his eye!

So much better.

This is what happens when ducks get attacked by raccoons.

There front of his head is still pretty bad, but not too bad.

Happy 4th...

Well, I actually ended up not going to work today due to unforeseen reasons. And no, it wasn't to set of fireworks. My lovely little auntie actually took my sister and me out to eat earlier. And can you guess where we went... McDonald's! I swear, if I eat anymore McDonald's I'm going to dye, lol. Why must their fries be so good?

We actually didn't do anything more exciting than that. We stopped by the store, ate, and then went home. We did hold the gliders earlier today, which was a blast. I love getting those little monsters out and carrying them around. SO cute!

Around 7ish, LaVaughn and I decided to run to the convenience store for a soda. We also didn't think it would hurt to stop by and see the guy that was selling fireworks. Well, we got there and of course, he was closing up. He hadn't closed all the way, just starting. So we decided to get on out and see if he had anything. Well, LaVaughn asked,

"Are you still open?" his response, "Not really, what are you looking for?" we both replied, "Just looking."

He than began to say that he really shouldn't sell because he didn't have a light up in his little trailer. We just said whatever and walked off. What a douche! It was still light enough for us to see, so I don't know why the prick didn't let us grab a couple things. Oh well, his loss!

Well, it's back to suck tomorrow. I have to work the rest of the weekend, so it should be an awesome blast.

Hope everyone had a happy 4th!

Love & Peace

-Megan
