Semi-Sabbatical

Hello all, I'm back to the ever so enthralling world of blogging. I'm saying all of this like I've vanished for another 4 years, only to return with hundreds of photos that I've taken. I've tried to steadily blog this year, so not blogging for nearly a week means something to me now. If I'm being honest, the thought of not blogging again did cross my mind, but then I think of all the photos I've taken and the fact that no one - other than myself - would get to see them.

I mean, I show my sister everything I take usually, but she doesn't share the same love for photography, so I often feel like I'm being annoying when I'm showing her pictures of well lit leaves or weeds. I like posting on Instagram, or I used to, but I've blogged about why that's an issue for me, so I will probably never return to posting on that platform again. Besides, Instagram is riddled with these so called "influencers" that literally only want to sell you this or that.

I'm going to stop myself there, there's really no need to be rambling about that right now.

I don't know if I've mentioned this before, but LaVaughn got me a really nice, full-size keyboard for Christmas in 2017. I had purchased myself a learners keyboard back in 2011 and used it all the time. I mean, at the time I thought it sounded amazing, but I had never used a decent keyboard before. It was well worth every penny and what I taught myself to play on, so I'm in NO way knocking the value of it. It was on the short side, maybe half the size of the one I have now, so playing a full size keyboard really opened my world.

In a way I kind of had to re-learn how to play certain songs. This was mainly due to the fact that my keyboard is so much larger and the keys feel entirely different. I had only ever touched real piano keys when I was younger and before I knew how to play anything. So going from a youth piano with flimsy little plastic to a full size with piano style (not ivory) keys was difficult.

Since I've given you a far too in-depth backstory on my keyboards, I guess it's time to get to the reason I brought it up in the first place. LaVaughn and I were watching Halloween with Jake one day and he looked at me when the theme song came on, so I asked him if he wanted me to try and learn it for him, which he did. This was months ago and I hadn't even had my keyboard out since before my mom passed away, so I got it out and dusted it off and started playing.

That's what I've been doing with my free time this week, which is why I haven't been blogging. I've been super busy in the garden this week as well - cleaning out the rows, picking up millions of rocks and then planting more zucchini, cucumbers, peppers and cantaloupe today. I'm honestly too damn sore to do anything else at the moment, so sitting on my ass in front of the tv is a priority at this point.

So aside from trying to learn the Halloween theme and gardening this week, I haven't really had time to blog. I mean, today was the first day that I went out and took pictures. They're really nothing special either, but I just can't hardly bring myself to post a blog without at least one picture.

So yeah, that's been my week and what I've been up to. I have a couple random videos of myself playing what I've learned over the few hours that I've been playing this week, but I don't know if I'll upload them or not. Hope everyone is having a great week!

Beautiful little iris looking flowers.

Weeds in the sunset, shocker.

I feel like these could really use a Lightroom edit, but I just don't even wanna go there.

Pretty purple widlflowers.

Drake update...

The awesome lady that's adopting Drake asked for some new photos of him last night and, naturally, I obliged. I've only taken his picture while he's in his pouch lately so I thought it would be fun to take some on the keyboard - like Hannibal and Mischa back in 2010. Luckily, he was really still and the pictures didn't turn out too bad.

And while we're on the subject of keyboards, I thought I would mention that I'm finally playing again! It's literally been months on top of months since I've touched the keyboard. Some of the songs I know came back to me while others... not so much. I never finished Moonlight Sonata, so I definitely need to get that done. I'm also in the process of learning A River Flows In You by Yirma. It's slightly on the difficult side, but it's beautiful!

Well, I suppose I've rambled enough for now. Until next time...

I know a video isn't as cute as Drake, but I thought I would post it anyway:

It's going to be one of those months...

I can already tell this is going to be an odd blogging month. A month with pointless blogs that go absolutely nowhere. Another obvious reason is that I've only blogged like 4 times in all of April. And believe me, I had to muster up all the strength I could just to get those few blogs worded right and posted. Maybe I'm just having an off month or something. Whatever the reason may be, I'm like 93% sure that I'll make myself blog at least once a week to keep you all updated with the ever so awesome happenings. So be sure to stick around.

Lets see, what's happened in the past few days? Friday was a pretty productive day. Not fun, productive. Anyone who knows us knows that we have a 90+ lb German Shepherd. We tried taking her to the groomer once, but it scared her SO bad, she wasn't right for days. That's when we decided to wash her ourselves. And since we don't take her to the groomer over the winter, she gets BEYOND stinky! She got to the point where she smelled like a rotten egg... no joke! Thankfully, Friday was warm enough to drag her out and wash her. And we did, four times! And man does she smell better. We plan on washing her ever week or every other week, we're not too sure yet. More than likely it will be over a week before we wash her, but I doubt we'll wait two.

In Robbie new... he's a monster! We usually always let him have the run of the house. Well here lately, he's been in his cage more than he's been out. If you've ever owned a ferret, then I'm sure you know that they're never satisfied. He goes from one thing to the next, which is normally fine, considering he never tears anything up. Not sure if you remember my old post a couple months about Robbie getting out, well he did. At the time, we decided to let him have the entire house to himself. Living room, kitchen, hall, laundry room, bathroom. You name it, he was in it! We just didn't let him in the bedrooms. Well after his great escape, he had to limit his fun. We had to put up a barrier so that he couldn't go down the hall, get in the laundry room, bedrooms and bathrooms. And since we've had the barrier up, he's made it his personal mission to tear it down. As soon as he gets out of his cage, and believe me when I say this, he goes straight for the damn barrier and scratches like it nobodies business. And it's not just mild scratching, it's load and extremely annoying! We tried spraying vinegar in the corner, that worked for a while until he got used to the smell. Then he was back, non-stop. After so much of him doing that, we would have to put him in his cage. Then one day, LaVaughn mentioned moving the barrier down some, giving him access to most of the hall and one bedroom door. So that's what we did. And where do you think he went? Right up to the damn barrier! He's never satisfied! I mean, I love him to death, but sometimes I wasn't to rip his head off. So that's what's been going on with that, lol.

Aside from animal news, I've become massively obsessed with the Dead Island theme song. So much that I can actually play it on the piano now. It's nothing like the real thing, considering I don't have a violin to back me, but it still sounds pretty cool. If I can, I'll try to get a video of it and post it.

Ugh, I so don't have the energy to wright anymore. I think it's time for a shower and a drive into the city. Well, if not the city, then the store will do. Sorry if this blog has been too long and too creepy. Like I said above, I'm having an off month. Hopefully I'll kick start my writing in the next few days and come back with a kickin blog. I doubt it, but we can only hope. Until then, you know where to find me...

Tuesday's musings and then some...

Have you heard? Because of the earthquake in Japan, Earth's day has become shorter by 1.8 microsecond! What ever are we going to do? And to think, I was just getting used to time change, lol. Ugh, it's amazing that someone actually measures the Earth's rotation close enough to know that it's spinning 1.8 microsecond faster. I mean, there are 1,000,000 microseconds in a second, how does that even register? Ok, I'm done ranting.

Hmm, what's enthralling news do I have to share today? Well, I suppose I could talk about the yogurt drops we got in the mail. I think I already mentioned that someone on GliderCENTRAL offered to ship us some yogurt drops for way lower shipping price. If not, now you know. Anyway, we finally got them in the mail today and I can't wait to feed the gliders some. They're going to be extra happy tonight. Well, aside from the fact that we have to trim their nails tonight and bribe them with yoggies. Fun, fun, fun! Luckily, LaVaughn does all of that.

Lets see, what else has been going on in the past few days? Well, I'm in the process of learning Moonlight Sonata (or Piano Sonata No. 14). It's one of my ALL TIME favorite Beethoven songs. Aside from Fur Elise of course. There's just something about this song that speaks to me. But yeah, that's what's going on there, lol.

Well, I suppose that's all for now. I can't really think of anything else to talk about. The pictures I'm going to add pretty much speak for themselves. Until next time, you know where to find me...
