A cry for help...

The things LaVaughn and I do... I sometimes don't know how to justify our actions so that we seem less like weirdos or hoarders of animals. This one is kind of on LaVaughn, though. She made the approach, contact, and initiated pick-up. So yes LaVaughn, I'm blaming you.

Yesterday, around 9:30 at night, LaVaughn found this ad on a Facebook page -- you know, the groups that are basically the new Craigslist -- where a girl was re-homing her rat and hamster. The rat was in a (semi) decent sized aquarium with wood chips and a box. Still, the rat/cage ratio was decent, no red flags or anything. The hamster, however, was in a travel cage... a kritter keeper!!

LaVaughn was taken aback by the whole thing and really toyed with her emotions. I could barely wrap my head around the fact that this chick actually admitted to keeping this poor hamster in a travel cage her ENTIRE life! She said that she had a ball that she let her play in and she was getting rid of her because she couldn't afford a bigger cage for her. Be it true or not, I still couldn't walk by that poor hamster day in and day out and be okay with it.

So, LaVaughn contacted the girl and weaseled her price from $15 to $12 and set up the drop-off point. This girl lived in Des Arc which is like not even 5 minutes from us, but it was past 11:00 last night -- which made us a little hesitant to have her meet us -- but we decided to meet her anyways. She looked to be in her late teens, early 20s, so I don't think at any point our lives were in danger.

We got home, set up her playpen that came with her, and let her run around in the bathroom with us for over an hour. We've decided to name her Sookie, as in Sookie Stackhouse from True Blood. I know, so original. It's cute and it fits her, so whatevs.

We're trying to get her out as much as we can until her new cage arrives. There was a 25% off coupon for 1800PetSupplies, so we stocked up on a bunch of new stuff for her. SO excited to get it all!

We've let her run amok all evening in her little playpen, so hopefully that will keep her entertained enough for the time being.

Love & Peace

This is the cage this poor hamster has spend her entire life in.

She's so miserable.

But oh so cute!

She desperately wants out.

And now she looks like grumpy hamster.

Mr. Pip -- the cutest WFB boy there is!

Her play area, equipped with a Raptor Wheel.

Declan is such a gorgeous boy.

As is this stunning girl.

I'm surprised she knows how to walk.
